There are a few different types of leases that you can choose to go with when you are moving into an apartment. Most people choose to go with a traditional lease that allows them to live in the apartment and have the same rules and terms for 12 months or more. This provides them and the landlord with some stability along the way, which will provide a good benefit to both sides. Another   option to work with is a month to month lease.

When you choose a month to month lease, you will be signing a document that does not have a set end date. If you choose the traditional lease, the tenant is going to commit to staying in that apartment for the whole term of the lease, whether that is for a full year or for longer. This can be great if you plan to stick around for a long time. But for those who need more flexibility, a month to month rental may be a good option.

With these month to month leases, you will find that there is no set rental period. The amount can be as long or as short as you would like and the lease will renew each month. You do need to give the landlord 30-days before you terminate the contract so they can start to find someone else to move into the unit. And if they decide that they no longer want to renew the lease, they can end it as well with that 30-day lease.

This type of lease is not going to provide you with the same type of stability that you can get with a traditional lease. But if you are new to an area and just trying it out or you are looking to relocate for a job soon, having that month to month lease and some of the flexibility that it provides can be nice and may be the better option to choose.
