The more questions that you take the time to ask a landlord or property manager about the unit that you are touring, the better decision you can make about living there. You can learn a lot about the apartment just by how willing the landlord or property manager is to answer your questions. If they seem like they do not want to answer the questions or they are hiding something, then you  may want to consider whether living somewhere else is better.

You need to ask questions to make an informed decision about whether the apartment is the right one for you. You can’t know everything by a quick glance at the apartment and your future landlord should be able to tell you a lot about the property when you do decide to ask. Going in with a list of questions will ensure that you get them all answered and do not forget about them after you get there.

There are a lot of questions that you can ask a potential landlord or property manager to make sure that you are prepared and can make the best decision for your needs. Some of these include:

# How much is the rent and are there any utilities that are covered under that amount or not.

# How much the typical tenant is paying for the utilities of their apartment. This will give you a good estimate, but remember that your usage of the utilities may be different than someone else.

# The type of lease that they have available if you would like to go with a month to month one rather than a traditional lease.

# What additional amenities you are allowed to enjoy or are offered at the apartment so that you can compare it to some of the others.

# Whether you are allowed to bring a pet along with you to the new apartment or not.

# What the parking situation is like. If you have to fight for parking on the street, that can get annoying at the end of the day. See if there is designated parking for residents or if you will need to pay for a parking spot.
